Using Your Imagination Part 2 - Gekisai Kata

Kata is not a mere choreography of movements.  To reach its secrets try and ponder the following riddles and then share your findings with your teacher for feedback.

Gekisai Dai Ichi Kata (To destroy Introduction number one) 

This is the early stage of a conflict testing the strength of an antagonist, trying to weed out the weakness, using strategy rather than strength.

Hints – properly moving in Sanchin  

There seems to be a variety of challenges, close and long range tactics, with minimal effort, this as it is suggested, man’s knowledge of achievement in the 20th century, moving into the 21st century and evolution, thus at the end of the kata a step forward.

Hints – long and short stances, elbow and fist movements, hike uke

Gekisai Dai Ni Kata (To destroy Introduction number two) 

This is the next stage of conflict, as to victory, the conquering of the foe, and the grasping and openness and settlement of agreement between human beings, the understanding of authority and development and judgement.

Hints – mawashi uke
