Training started on Saturday morning at 10.00 hours, with the traditional warm up which I am positive everyone needed it to calm their nervousness in what the w/end was going to bring and then after 25 minutes their curiosity were answered
So after short water brake it was back to training, looking around at the diversity of people that were there it generates a feeling of Unity and Devotion, and it was so nice to see people from other organisations joining in.
Basics would dominate the first hour static and moving with combinations, then Kata scrutinising every detail to make sure there was no misunderstanding, because the concept of Goju – Ryu is quality not quantity, the class was then split into groups so I could concentrate on Yudansha (Black Belts) and the grading candidates from Gekisai to Kururunfa Kata.
After lunch “Chishi Kata” the complete discipline, then Kakei with Naga Waza then Sanchin and Tensho Kata combine with variation applications, after 5 hours repetitions everyone looked completely fatigued, so a good night sleep would be the best course of action, in preparation for what the morning would bring.
Sunday morning would be for application of all the Kata’s and after 2 hours it was time to review the procedure that was practiced over the w/end, then after lunch 9 candidates would demonstrate their proficiency and determination in achieving their goal.
I am please to report that everyone was successful, in the words of Higaonna Sensei “Not only technique but Mind, Heart, Spirit and Personality”.
But it was not all about Karate – Do, to toast the success of all the candidates’ efforts a BBQ was prepare with music, it’s important to have such an event to develop social interaction and life skills and to reflect on their achievements.
