Roles and Responsibilities

The effort of every instructor should be to train first with the Chief Instructor, and then to transmit their knowledge to the students. Turning up at the dojo and receiving payment for teaching is only a small part. In every profession we all need educating, and to make sure that we do not misinterpret the aims of the core curriculum.

If you follow your heart and the truth, and don’t wish to train anymore, you should tear up your certificate, and continue your teaching for financial gains. I completely understand this, but don’t hide behind a false image. Because if this is so, you will dilute the true teachings of our karate ancestry and the teachings will be gone forever. This is how some styles of karate have lost their original meanings, through lack of association, education and professionalism.

Some people seem to think the higher grade you are, the more attention you require. On the contrary, because of your aptitude you should become more humble in your approach to teaching and interaction. Your challenge should be to develop and educate people about Budo  

Because we are in the 21 st century, tradition and science go hand in hand. To safeguard the traditional teachings we should try and understand the anatomy and its workings to protect the future generations. It is with this in mind, that you must maintain your level of knowledge and understanding or it will diminish.
