Instructor Profile
Sensei Joost Frehé 2nd Dan
Joost first came in contact with Goju Ryu back in the Netherlands through Shihan Harry de Spa (NOGKA), and later, through Harry's senior students Sensei's André Ter Veer, Mark Bicknell and Sydney Leijenhorst.
In 2001 Joost visited London for the first time to train at Sensei George Andrews' honbu dojo in Elephant & Castle. This led to being picked to compete at the World Championships (World Games) in Toronto, Canada, as part of the OTGKA English Team in 2006.
At the same time Joost started teaching an OTGKA club (Norbury Karate Club) at the request of Sensei Andrews.
Joost graduated from the College of Chinese Medicine London (CCM London) in 2010, a study he started in search of 'the Chinese roots' of Goju Ryu often debated by de Spa Sensei.
Joost teaches his own classes besides the Norbury club and has specialized his studies of Chinese medicine in the fields of sports injuries, injury prevention and sports nutrition among other.
He runs a blog (Oriental MMA) that aims to re-link the historic connection between Martial arts and Oriental medicine.
