After spending two hours in traffic trying to leave
London, we reached the tranquillity of the campsite in Winchester some
four hours after we left, with 25 hungry children to feed.
Thanks to Mrs Pickup the proprietor, fish and chips were on hand when
we arrived. After everyone's appetites were filled, we erected the tents
then the boys proceeded to a game of footy, while the girls went to look
at the farm animals. This year there were ducks, chickens and piglets,
ten in all with their mother, along with some fine looking horses.
Some of the children might not get the opportunity to visit such a calm
and tranquil place as this. We give the children time and space within
the boundaries of safety, so they can without interference, interact and
with team workhelp build their confidence and self-esteem.
The program for the weekend consist of a light morning run, then two hours
of Goju - Ryu training with games, then one hour of swimming, followed
by more games during free time.
By early evening everyone was ready for a convivial
BBQ, by 10:00pm the children are winding down, ready for bed. There will
be the same event on the August bank holiday weekend, keep checking the
calendar for details.
My special thanks to all the staff that helped over the weekend.
George Andrews
