Open Course for SEKU Portsmouth May 2003

The Mountbatten Centre in Pompey (Portsmouth) was the venue for this course, a place that holds some history for me. Back in the early 70's together with Sensei Mick Dewey we did a demonstration for the Japanese Fleet that were in port at the time, and now I was conducting a seminar once again in this famous place.

Lined up in their ranks were about 80 - 100 people waiting eagerly for the training to start. Teaching along side us was Sensei Dave Hazard to most of you he was a formidable fighter for the England Squad, and is still very sharp and a good technician.

We split the class in to two groups I took the Black belts for two and a half hours. On the request of Sensei Mike Dewey I taught the Kata Seipai and its applications, first slow then fast, which was received very well.

After the break I again took the Black belts this time for Self-Defence, utilising four different close quarter combinations, using jodan, chudan and gedan attacks. I took things a stage further by adding a series of throwing techniques using the same attacks, then putting them all together. After a bit of effort and sweat they completed the exercise.

It was a great pleasure for me to be teaching along side two of the best-known Karate Sensei's in England, and hope we can do it again sometime.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sensei Mick and Sensei Dave.
