Each year the OTGKA conducts two instructors courses
that are compulsory for all dojo instructors and assistants they have.
This is important, to make sure that everyone is complying with the IOGKF
Curriculum, the Children's Protection Act and the Code of Conduct. On
top of these requirements their teaching skills are assessed and a check
on their documentation is made (licence, first aid and insurance etc).
Each Instructor and their Assistant's are C.R.B checked (Criminal Records
Bureau) and must demonstrate their approach on introducing a student to
the training hall, and their legal obligation. They are required to demonstrate
their teaching skills to beginners, and discuss different scenario's they
are liable to encounter.
Group discussions are plentiful, with some interesting questions brought
up, all aspects are covered from attitudes, behaviour and circumstances
in children and adults alike.
I personally have to complete five courses a year on
all aspects of children's needs and protection, to continue to be a Registered
Foster Carer so recogise the importance of such training for my instructors.
During the course to isolate the fatigue of sitting still, the participants
demonstated kata or (forms) just to relax their mind and body, this helped
to re-stimulate their concentration, after 4 hours of the agenda, everyone
is ready to eat a light snack, and a well deserved cup of tea.
