OTGKA Instructors Training

It is important that all dojo instructors receive and have up to date knowledge on current legislation regarding child protection procedures. With this in mind one of our annual courses was held at the Honbu Dojo for all OTGKA instructors and assistants covering all the necessary aspects.

On the Saturday there was a presentation on Child Protection in Sport, Ethical Standards with the Roles and Responsibly of a coach, handouts were readily available for the instructors to study at their leisure. The presentation lasted for three hours, prior to that I gave the instructors two hours of Kata training which included Seipei, Kururunfa and Sesan. The kata were broken down with detailed explanations, the concept of Goju Ryu is quality not quantity and with many repetitions you can achieve this concept.

On Sunday I made my way to Winchester to the Worthy Down Army Training Camp to conduct one of my regular courses there. On my way driving on the M25 you could see the change in seasons, from a cold depressing couple of months to a rise in temperature and a glimmer of sunshine. It seems to simulate everything, the trees and flowers and the ever present birds feeding in the surrounding fields, which is a reminder that spring as arrived.

Arriving at the gymnasium which could tell a thousand stories, I was met by 36 people ready to train, after 3 hours of the core curriculum everyone seemed to be ready for the Mother’s Day celebration.

My thanks to all the staff for making this a happy and enjoyable day
